The EU's energy dependence BRUSSELS, July 25, 2014 - The EU imports more than half of the energy it consumes and that can make it vulnerable to external energy suppliers such as Russia. To improve the situation, the European Commission presented a plan to reduce this dependence, which was discussed by Parliament’s industry committee this week.
South Sudan: Europe increases food aid BRUSSELS, July 25, 2014 - The European Commission has just signed two major contracts with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) totalling €14 million to deliver vitally needed food assistance and facilitate the movement of humanitarian cargo in South Sudan. The contribution will help approximately 1.7 million people.
US free-trade deal: "In the end Parliament decides on the agreements" BRUSSELS, July 25, 2014 - A free-trade agreement with the US has the potential to boost the European economy with billions, but this should not come at the expense of consumers or workers. Last week the sixth round of negotiation of the so-called Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) took place.
EPP delegation visit to Ukraine: "The Russian-Ukrainian border must be closed" KIEV, July 25, 2014 - “The EPP continues to stand by all Ukrainians who seek a more democratic, prosperous, safe and secure Ukraine. We are here to show this European solidarity. This is why the first visit that an EPP delegation is paying to another country after the European Elections is a visit to Ukraine”, said EPP President Joseph Daul and EPP Group Chairman Manfred Weber MEP on Thursday after a two-day visit to Kiev along with five MEPs from the EPP Group.
