BRUSSELS, October 16, 2014 - Guy Verhofstadt, group leader of theAlliance of Liberals and Democrats, is very satisfied that the Slovenian Commissioner-designate Violeta Bulc was assigned the Transport portfolio. Verhofstadt:
"Transport is one of ALDE's top priorities. This hard portfolio will put Bulc in the driver's seat to make the European transport sector more competitive, more innovative and more dynamic. It will be an integral part of the investment plan Europe desperately needs to reboot its economy to create jobs and economic growth."
He adds: "For Slovenia it is a very good result that Bulc will have a portfolio that is of vital importance in the years to come."
Verhofstadt is convinced that Bulc's extensive experience in the private sector will be an important asset to Juncker's team:
"Bulc will help Juncker to implement a change of culture within the European Commission. She will help him to create a Commission that is less bureaucratic, a Commission that will make Europe more innovative, more SME-friendly and therefore better able to face the competition with the other trading blocs."
